MORE than 400 people gathered in Lund Park for Keighley’s latest Great Get Together. Lund Park Community Group coordinated the community picnic in memory of murdered MP Jo Cox. Group spokesman Jo Horrox said: “The park hosted people from different cultures, backgrounds and ages all enjoying the sunshine and taking part in archery, cycling, running, games whilst listening to the sounds of reggae! “ It was lovely to see so many families playing in the park having fun and enjoying the glorious sunshine. With support and help promised by so many at the event then we hope to be able to do this again.” A host of local organisations were involved including Bradford Council, Keighley Children’s Centre, Roshni Ghar, Kick Start Parkrun, Community Action Bradford and District, Church of the Nazarene and Stig of the Dub DJs, and Bangladeshi Community Association. Bradford Council donated £200 towards the cost of the Great Get Together. Anyone wishing to get involved with the Lund Park Community Group should call 01535 665258 or 07539 684668. The group will next meet on September 16 at 11am. See the Keighley News for more photos |
Keighley to host its first weekly Junior ParkrunVolunteers and their children who took part in the pilot Junior Parkrun at Lund Park in Keighley. |
KEIGHLEY will next year join the flourishing Parkrun movement with its own weekly event in Lund Park. A team of volunteers will host timed runs every Sunday morning that will be open to children aged between four and 14. Organisers have already recruited 11 volunteers, but need more to ensure the Parkrun becomes as successful as those held every week in dozens of towns and cities around the world. The first Parkrun was held at Lund Park on December 11 as a test, for children aged four to 14. More Good News for the the Lund Park Group in 2011 |
Crowds braved storms to visit Santa's grotto Santa made a big splash (literally) in Lund Park, Keighley, on the weekend of December 4. Despite heavy rain and cold weather the crowds were drawn to Lund Park and visited Santa’s grotto. More than 100 excited children and parents smiled and braved the storms to experience Lund Park’s new all-weather, luxury marquee (thanks to Joan and Fred, from Poole, Dorset). The marquee (available for hire) was beautifully decorated with hay and lights, festive music could be heard and some people thought they were stepping into a certain stable in Bethlehem but with no wise men to be seen. Lund Park’s Bowling Club chairman, Mick, opened the doors enabling access to their facilities for refreshments, mulled wine, which even warmed the cockles of the coldest members of the community. A huge thank you for donations goes out to The Community Chest, Low Fold Family Centre, Jo Jo’s Animal Feed, Broomhill Co-op and Hughes Bakery, in Saltaire. Also thanks to Sam, Jess and Jack, Mary, Jo and Derek, Leonie, Chrissie, Ruth and all I have forgotten. Lund Park Community Group promised to invite Santa to Lund Park regardless of the atrocious weather. We thought no-one would brave such extreme elements, however, we witnessed a heart-warming spectacle with an amazing response from across all the community. Thank you all for your overwhelming support. Roy Williams Chairman, Lund Park Community Group Keighley News 15th December 2011 Link here to KN |

November 2009 - Vandals Wreck Flower BedIt is part of a trail of destruction in the Keighley park by vandals who smashed the letters and re-arranged them to read “rund paki”. Roy Williams, of the Lund Park Community Group, said: “A great deal of effort and time had been taken planning and preparing a set of stones to sit in a flowerbed to read Lund Park. There had also been lovely flowers around the letters and when the sun was shining it looked beautiful. Full story - Link To Keighely News |
